Gamelan Sari Oneng Mataram was a present from Mataram kingdom. Story has it that this set of beautiful instrument was won over a candlenut match between the commander of Sumedang and Mataram during the rule of Pangeran Rangga Gempol III (1656 -1706). As you can see from its name, this set of gamelan is obviously a Javanese one. Made in Mataram, the carving shows a strong character of Mataram style, and the tone is pelog.

Sumedang, West Java, is an old town rich in history that is often being forgotten. I visited its museum finally for the first time -Museum Prabu Geusan Ulun- and really in love with the building. A colonial architecture that simple in details, humble but grand at the same time.

Inside The Gedung Gamelan of Prabu Geusan Ulun Museum

Di bagian dalam Gedung Gamelan ini terdapat koleksi lengkap peralatan musik tradisional. Selain itu, disini biasa diadakan latihan tari tradisional untuk umum.

Here, inside the Gedung Gamelan (lit. Gamelan Building), you can found a lot of traditional musical instrument such as gong and bonang, and also you can watch traditional dance practice.

Seorang pengunjung Museum Prabu Geusan Ulun sedang mengamati salah satu benda koleksi museum, yaitu mahkota Binokasih.

Kereta Kencana Naga Paksi (Naga Paksi Carriage)

Berurutan dari kiri ke kanan, Kereta Kencana Naga Paksi yang asli dan dua buah replikanya. Yang paling kanan merupakan Naga Paksi terbaru generasi sekarang, dimana kereta tersebut digunakan pada saat prosesi perpindahan pusat pemerintahan bulan lalu. Ketiga kereta kencana ini tersimpan apik di Gedung Kereta Museum Prabu Geusan Ulun.

From left to right, the original Naga Paksi, the old replica and the new one. Naga means Dragon, while Paksi means Elephant, which are refer to the carriage head. The original Naga Paksi carriage used when the family of the Sumedanglarang Kingdom held a big event, such as a wedding. It built in the reign of Pangeran Sugih (1882), older than The 1902 State Landau.

Keris Nagasasra ini merupakan senjata yang digunakan oleh pangeran Kornel saat bertemu Daendles di Cadas Pangeran tahun 1881, peristiwa ini kemudian ditampilkan pada Monumen Cadas Pangeran.

As written in the information's note, this keris is an inheritance of Pangeran Kusumahdinata (Pangeran Kornel, 1791-1828), used at the meeting with Herman Willem Daendles in 1881 at Cadas Pangeran.

Some visitors of Prabu Geusan Ulun Museum took a photo together with Aom Achmad (the old man in the middle). He's a one of the Tribal Council of Keprabon Sumedang Larang . I also met Anne, a young woman in the left, she was visiting the museum with his family member here. Anyway, Glad to meet you all...

By the way, on Friday, April 22 Sumedang was celebrating the 433rd Anniversary. But, unfortunately I missed the ceremonial event. So, I have no pictures to share. :(

Personally, Museum Prabu Geusan Ulun is one of my favorite places in Sumedang. One of the most famous collection is the Binokasih crown, as a legacy from Prabu Geusan Ulun (1578 - 1601). As you can see in the picture, there are some students of elementary school pay attention to a museum staff before exploring the museum. This photo is my participation on CDP Theme Day. Meriam Kumpeni (VOC) diterima tahun 1656. Salah satu koleksi di Museum Prabu Geusan Ulun

Di situs ini banyak sekali koleksi meriam ditawarkan untuk dikoleksi berasal dari tahun 1700 -an. Jika melihat tahun penerimaan meriam VOC diatas yaitu 1656, berarti meriam tersebut 100-an tahun lebih tua dari meriam-meriam yang dijual sebagai barang koleksi, artinya meriam kumpeni (VOC) ini merupakan salah satu barang langka dan menjadi buruan para kolektor. Semoga barang antik ini akan tetap berada di museum Prabu Geusan Ulun, dan tidak berpindah tangan. Agar bisa tetap dinikmati anak cucu kita. Bagaimanapun menjaga sesuatu selama ratusan atau ribuan tahun itu bukan perkerjaan yang mudah. Bayangkan...

A VOC (Dutch East India Company) cannon. A rare and most collectible antique cannon in Prabu Geusan Ulun Museum. I don't know exactly, when was this cannon built, but from the piece of paper patched there, it's informs that the cannon was received in 1656. You also can visit here if you are a collector of antique cannon, but if you're interested in the VOC cannon above, fortunately, it's not for sale and it won't.

The Lodaya Tiger of Prabu Geusan Ulun Museum

It was hunted and killed in 1936 in Bengkulu, Sumatera island. Now, it is become a collection of Prabu Geusan Ulun Museum.

Menurut informasi pada display, Harimau Lodaya yang sudah diawetkan ini diburu pada tahun 1936 di Bengkulu, mengherankan sih, kok bisa Lodaya ada di Bengkulu?. Sekarang menjadi salah satu barang koleksi Museum Prabu Geusan Ulun Sumedang.
